FBCA Student Aspires To Act On Broadway

Fort Bend Christian Academy (FBCA) sixth grader Addy McMillen has broken her leg many times — on stage that is.

Addy has been acting for three years, and her first big show was The Jungle Book KIDS with Inspiration Stage in Sugar Land. She has since been in numerous Inspiration Stage shows, including Peter Pan Jr., Cinderella KIDS, Dear Edwina Jr. (as Edwina) and The Lion King Jr. (ensemble).

In January 2015, Addy traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, with Seussical, Jr. to compete at the Junior Theatre Festival (JTF), where Seussical, Jr. won several national awards. In December, Addy appeared in Inspiration Stage’s Elf, Jr. as an elf and one of Santa’s Helpers. This month, she plans to attend JTF with The Lion King Jr. cast, performing and competing again.

“I am always a little nervous before going on stage, but talking it through with my theater friends, who are in the same position, helps me to be strong,” Addy said.

Addy’s favorite character to play was Downy, the duckling in Honk, Jr., an adaptation of The Ugly Duckling. She appreciates Inspiration Stage’s artistic director Mandy Seymore-Sensat, stage manager Annelea Bootle and music director Sarah Patterson for their encouragement and support. “Addy is a very talented and spunky young actress. It is always a joy to work with her; she gives her whole heart to each character she plays,” Seymore-Sensat said.

“Theatre has also helped me learn that you don’t always get what you want,” Addy said. “I don’t always get the part I want, but I still need to give it my all.”

In her spare time, Addy enjoys singing, playing the drums, tumbling and reading dystopian thrillers like The Hunger Games.

It is Addy’s dream to perform on Broadway, but first, she hopes to play a strong role in an FBCA production.

“I have seen Addy’s confidence grow exponentially since she started theatre,” mother Alisha McMillen said. “It gives her an outlet to be herself and let her personality shine.”

Addy has attended Fort Bend Christian Academy since the fourth grade with her twin sister, Darian.
