New Train Stop – Just for the Kids – Comes to Sugar Land
Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center Unveils New Train And Roundhouse Play Area
There’s a new train stop in Sugar Land – but this one is just for kids. The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center has opened a new, interactive train and roundhouse play experience that gives aspiring conductors the opportunity to live out their dream of operating a big locomotive.
Underwritten by Union Pacific Railroad, the train features an engine, car and caboose adorned in the company’s familiar yellow and red colors with its logo prominently displayed. A caboose roof and mounted train wheels add to its look and feel.
“Fort Bend County has long been an important area for Union Pacific Railroad as we travel in and out of the Houston area,” said Brenda Mainwaring, Union Pacific vice president – Public Affairs, Southern Region. “We are proud to be an active member of this community and to have been able to contribute to this facility that will impact the next generation.”
Located in the museum’s TotSpot exhibit, the play area also features a dual-level, brick-textured roundhouse where children can imagine locomotives being serviced after a long day on the rails. Its spacious raised platform features a captivating flaghouse bubble tube while a slide provides ready access to the first level where tots can access a tunnel through two barn doors.
The Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center – A Very Special Project of the Children’s Museum of Houston, recently opened at 198 Kempner Street and Highway 90 in Sugar Land.

Interactive exhibits and galleries managed as platforms for learning are ideal for children up to 12 years.
Hours for the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. General admission for adults and children age 1+ is $12.
