Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation “Taking the Stage!”

Gala offers live and silent auctions

A live and silent auction will be one of the highlights of the Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation’s 2011 Founder’s Ball gala, set for Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Safari Texas Ranch.

The 2011 gala will continue the tradition of having community leaders sponsor live auction packages and an early list of this year’s donors include packages put together by Marilyn Glover and Jan Meyer. The live auction is being co-chaired by SLCAF board member Donna Molho and Jeff Tallas. The silent auction co-chairs, Nancy Frank and Celia Olson, are assembling a 50-item silent auction that will be top quality merchandise and services. In addition, there will be 8-10 items that will be up for grabs on the bid board including the customary SLCAF board member donated “favorite wine basket.”

SLCAF board president Louis Garvin said, “Our volunteers for the gala work enthusiastically and tirelessly for the benefit of SLCAF, and this year’s auction co-chairs, Donna, Jeff, Nancy and Celia, are making this year’s event the best ever.”

“The goal of this year’s gala is to raise the funds to bring first class performances to Lakeview Auditorium, where they will be ‘Taking the Stage!’ following the completion of the current renovations,” says Bridget Yeung, SLCAF board vice president.

The auditorium is currently under construction including a 900-square-foot backstage addition, creating ample space for future Lakeview Auditorium performers. The new section includes dressing rooms, restrooms, a green room, storage rooms, a loading dock and handicap access to the stage. In addition, the exterior is being renovated as well as the rooftop balustrade being restored, which will return the building to its original state.

The gala is the Foundation’s most important annual fund-raising event. Sponsorships are currently available at three levels: Benefactor ($5,000), Patron of the Arts ($2,500), and Colleague ($1,000), which include a table for 10 with priority seating at the event. Sugar Land Mayor James Thompson and SLCAF board member Bridget Yeung are Sponsorship co-chairs. Tickets are available for $100 each, or $1,000 for a reserved table of 10.
