A Pup-ular Event: Run With the Dogs

2018 Doggone Fun Run Spokesdog Biscuit is pawsitively pumped to spread the word about the 5th Annual Doggone Fun Run benefitting Fort Bend Cares.

Fort Bend Cares’ Fifth Annual Doggone Fun Run And Sienna Plantation’s Canine Carnival Return On April 14

Dog days are coming with the return of that most excellent and “pawsome” event — Fort Bend Cares’ fifth annual Doggone Fun Run and Sienna Plantation’s Canine Carnival on Saturday, April 14.

Registration for the pup-ular fun run/walk is now open thanks to Top Dog Sponsors Methodist Sugar Land Hospital and Pediatric Center Sugar Land, and Leader of The Pack Sponsor, Energy Transfer. Humans can go solo on a 5K run beginning at 8 a.m. or team up with their favorite pooches for a joint 5K (leashes required) at 8:20 a.m. A 1-mile walk/run is available for hounds and humans wanting to save up their energy for the Canine Carnival that follows. Register online at fortbendcares.org by March 31 to take advantage of early bird pricing. The carnival is free and open to the public.

The pooch party really gets rolling at 9 a.m. when four-legged Fidos begin “raising the ruff” at Sienna’s Village of Sawmill Lake, 9815 Cameron Way. Fort Bend’s most eagerly anticipated canine-friendly event features carnival rides and games, a dog costume contest, pet adoptions, inflatables, food trucks, face painting and more.

The 2018 DGFR Spokesdog, Biscuit, is a lab-greyhound mix owned by Debby Jackson of Alief. Biscuit brings smiles and comfort to patients at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital through the Faithful Paws Pet Therapy program and is excited to help spread the word about the run.

The funds raised from the fur and family-friendly event will be used for Fort Bend Cares Charitable Foundation, which provides grants to nonprofit organizations that offer direct services in education, health care and human services to disadvantaged youth in Fort Bend County.

Save the date and come on out to “paws-itively” the happiest place in Texas for a tail-wagging salute to man’s best friend!

Sponsorships and vendor opportunities are still available. For more information or to become a sponsor, call 832-819-2005, email [email protected] or visit fortbendcares.org.

A lab/greyhound mix, Biscuit is a specially trained therapy dog who provides emotional support and smiles to patients at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.
