School district provides talented student artists various showcases for their creativity
F ort Bend ISD recognized talented student artists during Youth Art Month in March. The celebration gives school districts an opportunity to promote art and art education for K-12 students, while encouraging community support of quality school art programs. Youth Art Month also provides a forum for recognizing the various skills students develop through visual arts experiences that are not possible in other curriculum areas.
“It is important for young people to see their art in the world,” said Dr. Joan Maresh, Visual Arts Helping Teacher. “This simple act helps to improve their self-esteem and acknowledges them as individuals who are making a valued contribution to society.”
Maresh has worked with the District’s visual arts teachers to provide students with various opportunities to showcase their artwork – including at area museums and businesses as part of the “Art-Around-Town” project, campus exhibits and on District printed pieces.
FBISD student artists Kara Moats, Kylie Pham and Alice Zhong were honored to have their artwork featured on District employee birthday cards sent from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Charles Dupre.
Kylie, a student at Highlands Elementary School, created artwork titled, “Trees with Colorful Skies” that was featured on the January 2016 birthday card. For the February 2016 birthday card, Dupre selected artwork created by Kara, titled “Mardi Gras Masks.” Kara is a student at Clements High School. Alice’s “Western Boot” artwork appeared on the March 2016 birthday card. She attends Cornerstone Elementary School.
