Sugar Creek Celebrates America’s Birthday
Several hundred people helped celebrate the 4th of July with a family fun celebration at Sugar Creek Country Club on July 3. The event offered a fabulous selection of food, music, fireworks, and a wide variety of entertainment. The timing for fireworks and music was perfectly orchestrated with the rain that arrived at the same time. Nothing hampered the holiday fun or patriotic spirit for these Fort Bend families!

Republican State Convention
Known as the largest state party convention in the U.S., thousands of delegates, alternates, party officials, candidates and guests converged on San Antonio, Texas for The Republican Party of Texas Convention held in San Antonio’s Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from Tuesday, June 12 through Saturday, June 16. Keynote speakers were Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, other state and national elected officials and leaders.
Also held at the convention was the Tribute to Republican Women luncheon that recognized outstanding women throughout the state for their hard work in the Texas Federation of Republican Women. Speakers included Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbott and U. S. Senator John Cornyn and others.
Rules, legislative priorities and the Party Platform were adopted by the delegates, as well as electing James Dickey from Austin as the State Republican Party Chair and Alma Perez Jackson from San Antonio as the Party Vice Chair. Marvin Clede and Kathaleen Wall were elected State Republican Executive Committeeman and Committeewoman from Senate District 17, as well as Edee Sinclair and Rick Figueroa, from Senate District 18.

Harold Kennedy Candidacy
Harold Kennedy was elected on the first ballot by the Fort Bend Republican Executive Committee to fill the candidacy for the empty seat on Fort Bend County Court at Law No. 5 left by the late Judge Ron Cohen. Kennedy has been very active in Fort Bend for many years, serving as an Associate Judge for over 19 years as well as being a seasoned attorney in the county for several years previously.
