Fort Bend Education Foundation Silver Jubilee Gala

Fort Bend Education Foundation (FBEF) celebrated 25 amazing years with its Silver Jubilee Gala on March 3 at Sugar Land Marriott Town Square. The beautiful ballroom was filled to capacity with friends and supporters of the FBEF, which provides opportunities to enrich and enhance the quality of education for all Fort Bend ISD students.

Guests were greeted by the Clements High School Drumline and welcomed by FBEF Executive Director Brenna Cosby. Remarks were also given by FBEF President Stacy Bynes, gala co-chairs Peggy Jackson and Lynn Halford, and FBISD Superintendent Dr. Charles Dupre. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal, silent auction, bid board, live auction and entertainment music by Password. The total amount contributed to the Foundation since inception is nearly $33 million from generous local businesses and individuals!

Lakeview Elementary Centennial Celebration

Lakeview Elementary celebrated 100 years with a festive Centennial party on Saturday, March 24 at the school campus in Sugar Land. The event featured a carnival, food trucks, games, an antique car show, a silent auction and a museum showcasing the school’s history. A formal proclamation ceremony was held in the Lakeview Elementary Auditorium with the FBISD Superintendent Dr. Charles Dupre, Mayor of Sugar Land Joe Zimmerman, the FBISD Board of Trustees and other school district and city officials on hand. The school recognized its historic growth from 1918-2018 . Former students, staff, families, friends, neighbors and local dignitaries also helped to celebrate the Centennial.

3) Rita Drabek with Chuck Kelly. “58 years later and he is still talking about getting that “A”. Rita Drabek is a longtime Fort Bend educator, former principal, and retired school board member.

Literacy Council of Fort Bend Reading Between the Wines

The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County presented its 6th Annual Reading Between the Wines affair on March 23 at Safari Texas Ranch. Co-chairs of the event were Helen Bow and Rebecca Deurlein, and Honorary Chairs were Larry and Lucia Street. The event featured several authors, great food, wines, and a silent and live auction. The evening’s emcee was Michael Garfield and auctioneer was Jake Messinger. Featured speaker Piper Kerman shared stories from her best-selling memoir, Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison. The book chronicles her “crucible experience” of the 13 months she spent in the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut. A brief dalliance with drug trafficking while she was in her early 20s sent Kerman to prison 10 years later on money-laundering charges. She now focuses her time working to promote the cause of prison and criminal justice reform.
